MUSING - WHAT HAPPENS AFTER WE DIE? (A PHYSICAL PERSPECTIVE)

What happens after a person dies? It is a mystery because no one who ever died gave a vivid account of the after-death. People who claimed to have seen God and the devil when they “resurrected” were said to have been hallucinating and were never dead in the first place. Those who were believed to have actually died never came back to tell any stories – Mohammed, Buddha, Theresa, even Jesus. The question still lingers: what is death like?

The living man is made of three components – the body, the soul, and the spirit. The body is what everyone sees, the matter which exists on the earth and moves about. The soul and the spirit, however, cannot be seen or touched. They are expressed through the body. The soul is the intellect, the will, and the emotions of a person. The spirit is the element that sustains the person (let’s not get spiritual).

When a man dies, his spirit is separated from the body. His soul dies with him. As there is no life, the body becomes lifeless. So, what happens at this point? Nothing. The body would be buried and a merry funeral would be held in honour of the dead. Death is a long dreamless sleep from which one cannot be awakened by any alarm. The person is no longer part of the life and existence on earth. Life goes on, but without the dead. The living remember all the things they have to do without them and they weep, but the dead do not hear them. They are already in that dreamless state where nothing from Earth gets to them no matter how loudly their names are screamed. There is no waking up. When a person dies, they are dead, gone forever into nothing. The dead cannot see anything, and they do not affect the living in any way.

So what happens after we die? Simple: nothing. We are just no longer part of the living world.

THE UNSUNG HERO: JOSEPH, FATHER OF JESUS

Leadership is often thought of in terms of grand titles and public achievements. But the most challenging leadership role might just be within the walls of our homes. Fathers, after all, are raising the next generation. Their choices have a ripple effect, impacting not just their families but society as a whole. Father's Day is here (June 16th, 2024). Let's consider a father from the scriptures who faced a unique challenge: Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus Christ. Imagine being engaged to marry someone you love, only to discover they're pregnant before your wedding. This was Joseph's reality. An honorable man, he initially planned to leave Mary quietly to avoid scandal. However, through divine guidance, he was called to stay and raise the child Mary was carrying. Joseph's situation was far from ordinary in those days. He would be raising a child not his own. This could lead to misunderstandings – his corrections might be seen as confrontations, and his role...

TWISTED: CHAPTER 7

ON A MISSION Kindly recap  CHAPTER 6  here. Bech had chosen to stay away from Jade for a while. She avoided places she knew he would be, like the public library, the open-air bar, or the washing bay near the open-air bar. She did not answer his calls or messages, even though she read each of his messages twice, first for an overview, then for context. Today, she was at home, trying to catch up with her reading. But she just couldn’t keep him out of her mind. It had been a week since their last encounter but every day felt like a loop, replaying until she fell asleep. Once or twice she had had the same dream as the first one, but this time the dream began with Jade confessing his undying affection for her and kissing her passionately. She had woken up in the middle of those nights sweaty but cold. The memory of the dream and his kiss sent shivers down her arms. She strolled into her cozy kitchen and prepared a cocoa beverage. The afternoon sun was merciless with the heat so s...
